V9k Hard Drive setup
Tested on a Victor 9000 with:
- 896K RAM (128K mainboard + SRAM Upgrade card)
- (Prob only need 256K)
- DMA card and Xebec S1410 with ROM 104521f
- Decromancer rev.D smt MFM emulator
- ROM BIOS 3.7
- Victor DOS 3.1 (IO 2.94)
- FACTORYF.EXE (76672 bytes)
- HDSETUP.EXE v2.34 (72897 bytes)
- boot floppy: v9k-dos31-ss-hdutil.zip
Steps:
- On the MFM Emulator:
-
mfm_emu --drive 1 --file disk_695_5 --initialize --cylinders 695 --heads 5 - (start manually, or setup auto mount)
- On the Victor, boot MS-DOS 3.1
- It usually pauses for a long time (minutes) with a blank screen before continuing to boot
- Run FACTORYF.EXE
- You can hit Shift-F4 to configure specs manually, or choose TM703
- 0 bad blocks
- Once FACTORYF.EXE is done, reset the Victor
- Run HDSETUP.EXE
- INIT
- CONFIG - Add 10000 volume 1, the rest to volume 2
- ASSIGN - boot to volume 1, a to volume 1, b to right floppy, c to volume 2
- I think you can adjust the drive letters as desired, but this is the normal setup
- Once DONE it will reboot
- After reboot, SYS B:
- With this version of SYS.EXE, you specify the source of the system file to copy from on the command line
- choose a as destination
- This SYS.EXE (ms2.17) seems buggy - sometimes crashes or reboots after it’s done
- Remove the floppy, Reset the Victor - should boot from the hard drive now!
