Tandon 5ΒΌ" Floppy Drive

The drives fitted in the Act Sirius 1 and Victor 9000 are manufactured by Tandon Corporation. This company manufactured the first floppy drives for Victor and IBM PC's. Invented the double sided floppy disk drive head. The company went on to designed and manufactured various storage related components including stepper motors, and complete hard disk drives.

The floppydrives fitted to the Sirius/Victor computers is a stripped down version of the IMB floppy drive in that all the electronics have been removed. All the necessary electronics are on the Disk Controller Board so that all that is needed on the drive is a few micro switches, stepper motor, drive motor, clutch mechanism and the read/write head/s. There are two versions of the drives a single side head model and a double side head model. All body parts are the same.

The main chassis of the drive is of cast aluminium with plastic facia and trap door. To protect the heads and disk an aluminium cover is provided that is screwed to plastic rails. Below are two drives one with cover the other, cover removed exposing the heads etc.
